Citing a shift from in-class to online learning, the University of Iowa is requesting permission to close learning centers in Cedar Rapids, Davenport and Bettendorf.

The Board of Regents will be meeting next week and vote on closing the Tippie College of Business Cedar Rapids Learning Center, the Birchwood Learning Center, and the Scott Community College Learning Center.

University of Iowa officials argue that offering both in-person and online education has become an inefficient use of their resources.

The Regents meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at their Urbandale offices.
