A Tiffin man was charged with OWI Monday afternoon after allegedly found parked on a busy Coralville street with several opened alcohol containers in his vehicle.

According to police, 25-year-old Eduardo Gonzalez of Village Drive was parked in the travel portion of Jones Boulevard at approximately 12:25 pm in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle.  Upon contact, visible signs of intoxication were allegedly observed, including bloodshot watery and glassy eyes, slowed comprehension and responses, and an odor of alcohol emitting from him and the vehicle.  Multiple and various types of opened alcoholic beverage containers were reportedly in plain sight, located on the front passenger floor.  Gonzalez allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol and being too intoxicated to drive.

Field tests reportedly confirmed his intoxicated state, and a PBT showed his BAC at .182 percent. After being taken into custody, Gonzalez submitted to a Datamaster test which showed a BAC of .165 percent.

Gonzalez had a previous OWI conviction out of Marshall County in 2018. He’s been charged with a second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.
