Two women have been arrested on weapons charges after a late Saturday night traffic stop in Shueyville.

The Iowa State Patrol says it pulled over a 2008 Nissan Versa for an equipment violation just after 10:45 p.m. on 120th Street near James Avenue. The driver, 23-year-old Amoni West of Marion, is barred from driving until 2025.

Investigators say the vehicle smelled of marijuana, and a probable cause search was conducted. A Glock 22 with a full auto switch placed on it was reportedly found inside a purse on the back seat floorboard. The purse also contained West’s ID. West is unable to legally carry a firearm after receiving a deferred judgment on a charge of Conspiracy to Commit a Forced Felony in Linn County last year.

A second firearm was allegedly located under the seat where a passenger, identified as 18-year-old Taleigha Davis of Evansdale, was sitting. The gun has been reported stolen out of Cedar Rapids.

West is charged with Person Ineligible to Carry a Dangerous Weapon and Driving While Barred. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of three years in jail.

Davis is charged with Trafficking in Stolen Weapons. If convicted, she faces a maximum of five years in prison.
