Five people…including three children… were injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday night south of Kalona.
The Iowa State Patrol says a 2001 Chevy Silverado was travelling northbound on Highway 1 just after 7:45 p.m. when it crossed the center line near 150th Street and struck a southbound 2008 Volkswagen Jetta. The two vehicles came to rest on the west side of the highway.
The driver of the Chevy…69-year-old John Schrock of Wellman, and the driver of the Volkswagen…38-year-old Aurelio Munguia of Washington…were each transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, with Munguia requiring transportation via Air Care. Three juveniles…ages 14, five and three…were also taken to the UIHC. The extent of their injuries has not been released. All of the injured were wearing their seat belts.
The accident remains under investigation.
