The University of Iowa says they will continue to use Mayflower Residence Hall during the 2024-25 academic year.
The Iowa Now website reports more than 1,500 returning students in their second, third, and fourth years have applied to live on campus. The university also is seeing a record level of admission applications from prospective students for fall 2024.
The university announced their intention to sell the property a year ago, but because of high residence hall demand for the upcoming year, they decided it would be needed.
Spokesman Chris Brewer told the Gazette that building is still for sale, but would be conditional upon the university using the property for students in the upcoming academic year.
Mayflower can house more than 1,000 students in suite-style rooms that include kitchens and bathrooms. Additional study spaces and more single rooms are planned for the upcoming year, and campus leaders are working with students to possibly bring additional amenities to the property.
