An Iowa City man was taken into custody overnight after threatening to hit the mother of his child.

Police say neighbors of the victim called because of 55-year-old Ali Ahmed reportedly yelling and throwing things. After being separated from Ahmed, the woman began to cry as she told authorities what happened.

Ahmed is accused of yelling at the woman for several hours.  She alleged Ahmed told her to stay in her room, and if she came out he was going to hit her.  The woman believed that Ahmed would carry out his threat and was afraid of him.

The couple’s child witnessed the altercation.

Ahmed was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault first offense and Child Endangerment. He could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail if convicted on both counts.
