An Iowa City man has been arrested after falsely reporting an armed robbery.

31-year-old Robby Delzell of the Bon Air Manufactured Housing Community reported to officers the morning of January 31st that he had been robbed the night prior at gunpoint. The suspect reportedly stole his bicycle and cell phone while he was on the 2300 block of Muscatine Avenue.

Video collected from the scene reportedly did not match Delzell’s description of the alleged robbery. When confronted, he later admitted to completely fabricating his story and being extremely intoxicated the night of the alleged robbery.

A video review of the area the night of Delzell’s incident reportedly showed him, clearly intoxicated and having a hard time walking in a straight line.

A warrant was requested, and Delzell was arrested Thursday. He’s been charged with False Report of an Indictable Offense to a Public Entity and Public Intoxication. If convicted, he could face a jail sentence of up to 13 months.
