Accident west of Cedar Rapids sends two to hospital

A two-vehicle accident west of Cedar Rapids Monday afternoon sent two people to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident occurred at the intersection of Highway 30 and 33rd Avenue in Benton County at approximately 5:30pm. 25 year old Alexis Gonzalez of Cedar Rapids was traveling southbound on 33rd Avenue while 48-year-old Star Horak of Marion was westbound on Highway 30. Gonzalez reportedly drove into the intersection and was struck on the driver’s side by Horak’s vehicle.

Gonzalez was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, while Horak was taken ton Mercy Hospital. Each of them were driving without passengers. Their conditions are unknown.

The accident remains under investigation.
