A University of Iowa student is accused of assaulting and injuring a woman in an apartment complex stairwell.

Iowa City Police say 21-year-old Carter Lindrus was involved in an altercation with the woman outside his South Johnson Street apartment just before 3:15 Sunday morning. Lindrus is accused of pushing the woman around the stairwell in a violent manor. He also allegedly pushed her face into a wall, grabbed her arm, and pinned her against a wall with his fist. Investigators say the woman had significant swelling and bruising to her face and arm. The woman’s sweatshirt was torn and had blood on it from one of her facial injuries.

Lindrus was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 5:15 Sunday morning and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
