University of Iowa Dance Marathon raised over $1.4 million during the 30th anniversary of its “Big Event” Friday night and Saturday at the Iowa Memorial Union.

Thousands of students stood and danced for 24 straight hours at the IMU as they raised funds for children fighting pediatric cancer at the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Each student must raise at least $300 in donations to participate.

The annual event regularly features visits from the families of those being treated, presentation of donation checks, and the final reveal at 7:00 Saturday night. Last year’s Big Event raised over $1.74 million. This year saw approximately 50 people donate their hair for children undergoing treatment.

Over the last 30 years, UI Dance Marathon has raised over $34 million.

You can still make a donation online through the event’s web site: dancemarathon.uiowa.edu.
