An Iowa City man faces a forgery charge after allegedly depositing bad checks into an account that wasn’t his, then withdrawing cash.

33-year-old Demarco May of Sandusky Drive was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 5:45 Saturday night. North Liberty Police say on the night of September 11th May used a stolen debit card to deposit three different checks totaling $2,264.15 into another person’s bank account at Hills Bank on the Coralville Strip. Police say he withdrew the money shortly afterward.

The checks later turned out to be bad and were charged to the alleged victim’s account.

Video from the ATM camera reportedly shows May making the deposits. He’s charged with Forgery, a Class D Felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.
