Mercy Iowa City has finally transitioned to University of Iowa Health Care.
That includes approximately 1,000 former Mercy providers and team members, which UI officials say will allow continued local access to health care and jobs.
The transition of Mercy Iowa City’s 194-bed hospital campus and community clinics to UI Health Care follows months of planning by leaders from both institutions.
Bradley Haws, CEO of UI Hospitals & Clinics and associate vice president of UI Health Care, said in a Wednesday news release that the organization remains committed to preserving Mercy’s spirit of hospitality.
While the news release indicates Mercy patients will not notice any immediate significant differences, one change with the transition involves Mercy Hospital being renamed “UI Health Care Medical Center Downtown”.
UI Health Care says all Mercy employees in good standing were offered employment with the newly-rebranded facility, while community providers not employed by UI Health Care will continue to practice at the facility under an open medical staff model.
