The Iowa City Municipal Airport has received an over $400,000 federal grant for a solar panel project.

The funds are part of $15 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation to modernize aging airport infrastructure and ensure safe and efficient travel. While most of that money will be used to build new terminals, improve taxiways and install new lighting systems, Iowa City will use its allotment of $442,800 to install 312 solar panels to improve the airport’s energy efficiency.

A news release from Senator Chuck Grassley’s office announcing the funding did not include a timeline for the project.
