A local transient is starting off 2024 hard with police saying he’s already been the target of calls for service involving intoxication ten times this month.

The latest incident involving 65-year-old Allen Woods was just after 12:15 last Thursday afternoon, when he was allegedly found consuming vodka inside the Old Capitol Town Center on South Clinton Street. He’s been trespassed from the facility since 2014.

Woods, who currently resides at Shelter House, reportedly was so intoxicated he was unable to walk. He registered a .164% breath alcohol level on a weak breath and was transported to a local hospital.

Iowa City Police say the incident marked the tenth time first responders have had to deal with Woods for intoxication this month alone, with many of the occurrences leading to hospitalization. He pleaded guilty to a Public Intoxication charge on Friday and was fined $105.
