A Coralville man who is facing domestic abuse charges from an August incident has now been accused assaulting a Johnson County Jail inmate.
35-year-old Davonte Autman of the Iowa Lodge on the Coralville Strip was taken into custody August 23rd after an incident on the 10th. He faces counts of Domestic Abuse Assault, Willful Injury causing Bodily Injury, and contempt for violation of the No-Contact order issued by judge Jason Burns.
After first pleading guilty, Autman instead requested a speedy trial. His requests for a pre-trial release and a reduction of his bond have been denied.
While incarcerated at the Johnson County Jail, Autman reportedly punched an inmate in the face unprovoked on Wednesday morning. The incident was captured on closed-circuit cameras.
Autman was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor. A case management conference on the assault charges is set for February 5th and trial for February 27th. If convicted on those charges, he could be sentenced to up to 7 years in prison. He could be sentenced to another year if convicted on the jail assault.
