A domestic abuse suspect faces additional charges after he allegedly assaulted an Iowa City Police officer.

Police were called to a domestic disturbance at an address on Indigo Court just before 10:15 Thursday night. Arriving officers say the door was locked and they could hear screaming coming from inside the residence. According to arrest records, 36-year-old Frank Bravo Jr. eventually answered the door with a woman showing signs of distress behind him. Police say the woman was slumped over while bleeding and showing signs of being assaulted. She claimed Bravo had pinned her to a bed, punched her multiple times, and destroyed her phone when she tried to call 9-1-1.

Bravo allegedly tried to physically prevent police from getting to the victim, despite the fact she needed immediate medical attention. He was eventually placed into handcuffs, but investigators say he then head-butted an officer in the face, causing pain to the lower jaw.

Bravo is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault – 3rd or Subsequent Offense, Assault on a Peace Officer Causing Bodily Injury, Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury, False Imprisonment, and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over nine years in prison.
