IC man accused of attacking washing machine with shovel

An Iowa City man was charged with causing hundreds of dollars in damage to a laundromat washing machine with a shovel.

Police say 40-year-old Nicholas Lecnar of Clark Street was at Laundromania on East Bloomington Street. During the noon hour on January 13th, he allegedly used a shovel to hit a washing machine several times. The damage he caused reportedly cost over $1700 to fix.

The entire incident was recorded on store surveillance video and allegedly showed Lecnar’s face clearly. During a subsequent interview with police, he reportedly acknowledged being there at the time of the incident.

Lecnar was arrested and charged with 2nd degree Criminal Mischief, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
