Cedar Rapids man charged with operating snowmobile while intoxicated

A Cedar Rapids man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly operating a snowmobile while intoxicated.

Police were called to the area of Deerfield Drive and Jones Boulevard in North Liberty just before 3:30am Sunday on report of a man acting suspiciously and ringing the resident’s doorbell.  Authorities found 48-year-old Charles Kaska of Wright Brothers Boulevard near a snowmobile. He allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, poor balance, and the odor of ingested alcohol.

Kaska reportedly admitted to drinking earlier. He was checked by medical personnel for possible hypothermia. Kaska then reportedly stated that he was riding his snowmobile when he became lost and started walking, looking for help.

Kaska has a restricted license that requires an ignition interlock device and a state form giving him permission to drive, He was also revoked for a previous OWI until March of this year.

He was taken into custody and charged with 2nd offense OWI, driving while denied or revoked, and public intoxication. If convicted on all counts, Kaska could be sentenced to up to over three years in jail.
