An Iowa City woman is accused of insurance fraud.
34-year-old Sophie Akakop of Broadway Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 5:15 Saturday night. Iowa City Police say in January of last year Akakop presented to an insurer an oral statement in support of a claim or other benefit regarding her policy knowing the information was false. Investigators say she did so with the intent of defrauding her insurer.
No other details about the case have been released. Akakop is charged with Insurance Fraud, a Class D felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.
