A Cedar Rapids man is accused of cashing a fake check at an Iowa City Bank.

28-year-old Jacob Perrin of Russell Drive NE was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 9:30 Thursday morning. Iowa City Police say on the afternoon of July 12th Perrin cashed a fraudulent check in the amount of $2077.91 at Farmers & Merchants Bank on Mormon Trek Boulevard. The incident was reportedly caught on security video.

Earlier that day Perrin had allegedly tried to cash the check unsuccessfully at banks in Lone Tree and Nichols. Later that day he reportedly unsuccessfully tried to cash fraudulent checks at banks in Vinton and LaPorte City.

Investigators say Perrin admitted to later cashing fake checks with other co-defendants at other banks in various cities, including Coralville and North Liberty.

Perrin is charged with Forgery and 2nd Degree Theft. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
