A Quad Cities murder has died in custody in Coralville.
According to the Iowa Department of Corrections, 71-year-old Michael Eugene Horlas was pronounced dead due to natural causes at 10:18 p.m. on Tuesday. Horlas was being housed in the hospice unit at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center.
Horlas had been serving a life sentence for the crime of 1st Degree Murder from Scott County. His sentence began on October 19, 2001. Horlas was convicted of beating his father to death at his Davenport home.
