Iowa City Fire Department responds to downtown fire

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a Wednesday afternoon blaze in a downtown building that houses both commercial and residential units.

According to a news release from the ICFD, at 2:22 Wednesday afternoon firefighters responded to a report of smoke at 316 East Burlington Street.

Responding units encountered heavy smoke inside a restaurant located on the first floor of the building. The fire was brought under control at 2:41 p.m. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Damages to the building are estimated at $75,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal.

The ICFD was joined by fire units from Coralville and North Liberty.
