The latest Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom Iowa Poll says not only is former president Donald Trump the front runner, his supporters find his legal troubles of no consequence.

The poll shows Trump with 48 percent support among Iowa caucus goers, with former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley moving into 2nd place with 20 percent support, although the poll also indicates enthusiasm among her supporters is waning. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis slipped to third with 16 percent. Vivek Ramaswamy has 8 percent support.

Sixty-one percent say a potential conviction “does not matter” in determining their general election support for him. Nineteen percent say a conviction would make them more likely to support Trump, and 18% say it would make them less likely. Two percent say they are not sure.

In the latest poll, almost three in four likely Republican caucus goers say Trump can defeat President Joe Biden in a general election rematch regardless of the former president’s legal challenges.

The poll was conducted between January 7th and 12th by phone with a little over 700 registered voters who indicated they probably would attend tonight’s caucus.
