The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has released the names of the Cedar Rapids police officers involved in a New Year’s Day shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead.

Cedar Rapids Police received a report that a sedan drove past a residence on the 400 block of Longwood Drive Northeast and fired shots just before 6:30am.  Officers located the vehicle less than ten minutes after the incident. During an ensuing pursuit, the driver, 20-year-old Michael Griffin of Cedar Rapids, pointed a rifle outside of his vehicle and fired rounds at pursuing officers. At some point in the pursuit, a male juvenile passenger exited the vehicle and was arrested.

Once the vehicle stopped, officers gave verbal commands for Griffin to leave the vehicle, but he again fired his weapon from inside.  Five officers discharged their firearms at the suspect. Upon checking the vehicle, the driver was found deceased.

The officers were identified as Graham Campshure, Loren Culver, Christopher Hettinger, Jonathan McDowell, and Dylan Hall. None of the officers were injured.

The DCI is investigating the incident; they have not released information about how many times Griffin was shot, or how many rounds were fired by each officer.
