North Liberty woman charged with domestic assault

A North Liberty woman was taken into custody early Sunday morning after a domestic incident.

Police were called to the residence just before 5:30am after reports of a domestic incident. The victim stated that his child’s mother, identified as 21-year-old Valery Elvir Nunez, had returned home and an  argument started.

Elvir-Nunez reportedly punched the man in the chest and open palm slapped him on the left side of his face, causing a sharp pain to his head. Police said there was a visible injury to the face.

When interviewed, Elvir Nunez stated there was an argument but denied the assault took place. The couple are separated but still live together.

Elvir Nunez was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to one year if convicted.
