Muscatine man accused of setting fires at Guidelink Center

A Muscatine man was arrested early Monday after allegedly setting fires inside the Guidelink Center.

Police were called to the Southgate Avenue facility at 12:20am on reports of a resident lighting fires. On at least 4 occasions, 25-year-old Matthew Weatherman of Lucas Street reportedly used a toaster to light a paper product on fire.

Weatherman allegedly  took the lit paper products into his room and another unoccupied room. Both rooms reportedly had a burnt smell in them. A paper towel was located in Weatherman’s room that was rolled and had a burnt end to it. It appeared he was using it at as a torch.

The floor was melted near the toaster area.

Weatherman was arrested and charged with 1st degree Arson, a Class B Felony punishable by a prison term of up to 25 years if convicted.
