A wanted suspect has been arrested by Iowa City Police following a late Friday night traffic stop.
According to arrest records, officers had planned to pull over a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer on McCollister Boulevard near Covered Wagon Drive just before 10:15 p.m. The vehicle reportedly had a defective headlamp, a defective brake lamp, a defective plate lamp, and unlawful window tint.
Police say before a traffic stop could be initiated, the driver parked the car on a side street and walked away. The driver was stopped by police and identified as 25-year-old Aaron Flores of Lakeside Drive. Court records show Flores was wanted for skipping a June court appearance on a charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. That charge came following a traffic stop near the intersection of Lower Muscatine Road and 1st Avenue in May of last year. The Iowa State Patrol says Flores’ vehicle smelled of burnt marijuana, and a trace amount of the drug and several pipes were found inside the car.
A search of Flores’ vehicle following his Friday night arrest reportedly turned up three Hydrocodone pills as well as burnt pieces of tin foil and several plastic straws that showed signs of melting.
Flores now faces additional charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and another count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
If convicted on all charges relating to both incidents, Flores faces a maximum of 14 months in jail.
