Iowa City Police say a suspect faces weapons and drug charges after they executed a search warrant at his residence.

24-year-old Moses Bolar was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 1:15 Saturday morning. Arrest records indicate police executed a search warrant on Bolar’s South Dodge Street apartment at 10 a.m. on October 10th, 2022. They reportedly found 186 grams of raw marijuana, 21 THC cartridges, bags for packaging marijuana, a scale, three phones, a Ruger Security-9 pistol and a Smith & Wesson SD9VE pistol.

Police say Bolar purchased the guns at the Coralville Scheels on different occasions in 2021. He reportedly indicated on the ATF forms that he was not an active drug user, despite later evidence indicating he was a marijuana user and distributor at the time of the purchases. That evidence includes text messages on the seized phones that indicated Bolar was selling marijuana, including at least one text that contained pricing points.

Bolar is charged with two counts of Fraudulent Purchase of Firearms as well as a Controlled Substance Violation and a Drug Tax Stamp Violation. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.
