Iowa City Animal Services is investigating a dog bite incident that occurred this week.

According to a release issued by the city, Iowa City Animal Services received notification Wednesday  that a person had been bitten by a dog around 5 pm New Year’s Day in the area of  Park Road and Lexington Avenue.

The dog is described as medium sized with short black hair. The dog was accompanied by another dog that is also black haired with some light brown around the eyes. According to the information provided, the victim was walking past the dogs when the all-black dog jumped and bit them. The dogs were being walked by two people; however, no further description is available.

Iowa City Animal Services is seeking information on the rabies vaccination status of the dog. If anyone has any information, they are encouraged to contact Iowa City Animal Services directly at 319-356-5295 or the Iowa City Police Department at 319-356-6800.

Animal services says if you’ve been bitten, ask the owner of the animal for their contact information and if the animal is current on its rabies vaccination. Clean the bite with soap and water as soon as you’re able. Medical attention is suggested to ensure there is no infection, and a bite report should be filed with  Animal Services or the Iowa City Police Department.
