Des Moines man charged with identity theft for attempted vehicle purchase in Iowa City

A Des Moines man was taken into custody Saturday afternoon for attempting to purchase a luxury vehicle in Iowa City using another person’s identity information.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:15pm at Carousel Motors on Highway 1. 44-year-old Randall Finley reportedly used false Identification to attempt to buy a 2023 Mercedes worth $86,000 from the dealership. Finley is accused of using a false Iowa Driver’s License, Social Security number, and insurance card. He appeared at the dealership to pick up the vehicle and was arrested.

Due to the value of the vehicle, Finley was charged with Class C Identity Theft, and could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison if convicted.
