Driving in the overnight hours on expired plates has led to the arrest of a Coralville man.

Police say 20-year-old Joshua Buehler of 7th Street was operating a white 2013 Kia and was stopped for going 43 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone near the intersection of 1st Avenue and 2nd Street at around 2:30am Sunday. His license plate registration reportedly expired six months ago.

Upon contact, Buehler provided his driver’s license, but the officer reportedly could see another license in his wallet.  He allegedly had bloodshot, watery eyes, impaired speech, impaired balance, and smelled of ingested alcohol. He reportedly admitted to drinking, exhibited measurable impairment on SFSTs, and failed a preliminary breath test. A Datamaster test showed his BAC at .126 percent.

Once arrested for OWI, the wallet was searched, and a fictitious Illinois driver’s license was discovered, with Buehler’s true name and photo but a date of birth showing him of legal drinking age.

Buehler was charged with OWI first offense and Possession of a Fake ID. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
