A Columbus Junction man has been charged with OWI after a trooper allegedly found him intoxicated while he was on the shoulder of Interstate 380.
The incident occurred a little after 6:45pm on the southbound portion of the interstate. 41-year-old Dawt Hmung of HIghview Drive was reportedly sitting in a 2016 Dodge Charger, lost and trying to get directions to get home. The vehicle allegedly had the odor of ingested alcohol, and a case of Budweiser beer was located in the back seat.
Once outside the vehicle, Hmung reportedly admitted to drinking, and showed signs of intoxication including bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech. His BAC was measured over the legal limit to drive, and Hmung refused a Datamaster.
He was charged with OWI first offense, a serious misdemeanor.
