Edited release
12/28/23
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has opened a public comment period for proposed rule changes to the state’s air quality chapters.
Part of the proposal will include the revised provisions for air emission standards, as well as several air quality definitions.
The Department of Natural Resources determined that there should be an improved and streamlined format for adoption of the federal New Source Performance Standards and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants. The revision will provide the general emissions rates for criteria pollutants, such as particulate matter and sulfur dioxide, established to implement National Ambient Air Quality Standards.
The goal of the revision is to provide businesses and the public with clear, current, and consolidated air emissions requirements.
The public comment period runs through January 30th. All of the proposals are available in an Administrative Bulletin released Wednesday. The link is:

In addition, two virtual public hearings on the proposed changes will be held on Monday, January 29, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, and on Tuesday, January 30, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Links to register for both meetings are also available here:
