An Iowa City man was arrested on a warrant stemming from an alleged forgery this past spring.

According to the incident report, 59-year-old Michael Harris went to the Hills Bank location on the Coralville Strip the afternoon of April 20th and reportedly presented and cashed a counterfeit check in the amount of $2113.11, which he had purported to be from a business for which he had no connection with and had not issued a check to him.

The counterfeit check was made out to Harris and he reportedly presented an Iowa identification card number and expiration date which were written on the check. Investigators matched the ID photograph to surveillance of Harris passing the check at the bank.

A warrant was issued on December 20th; Harris was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon. He’s been charged with Forgery, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
