Muscatine’s Illuninate light display in Weed Park may not reopen this season after it suffered vandalism and theft.

The Muscatine Journal reports the display was cancelled Tuesday night after the theft and damage was discovered in the afternoon. A Facebook media post from Discover Muscatine reported damage to the displays and the theft of a large number of extension cords.

This was the display’s first year and featured over 40 professional light displays. It was scheduled to stay open through New Year’s Eve.

According to organizers, the group will need to raise $2500 to $3000 to replace the extension cords. Donations are being taken at www.crossroadsmuscatine.org ; residents can also donate cords by dropping them off at the Crossroads office on Houser Street.

If the funds can be raised, the light display could be opened again Friday or Saturday.
