A reported Christmas morning assault stemmed from a woman becoming angry after she was told by her boyfriend that he was “replacing” her.

That’s according to Iowa City Police, who were called to a domestic disturbance at the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street just before 10:00 Monday morning. Arrest records indicate 41-year-old Kamisha Terry told investigators that her live-in boyfriend had called her back to the apartment to tell her he had “replaced” her. That reportedly angered her, and an argument ensued. Police say Terry told them nothing physical happened other than the boyfriend trying to push her out of the apartment. However, the boyfriend claimed when Terry came back to the apartment, she jumped on top of him and began hitting him. A witness corroborated the boyfriend’s account.

Police say the boyfriend complained of pain from the assault. Terry did not report any injuries.  The two have been in a relationship since March.

A rock of white powdery substance was allegedly found during a search of Terry’s person. Police say she said she thought it looked like crack.

Terry is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault and Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
