An Iowa City man with outstanding warrants in connection with a July 4th shooting was arrested early Sunday.

Police conducted a traffic stop on a 2004 Chevrolet Impala at around 12:30 am Sunday being operated by 25-year-old Andre Williams of Taylor Drive.  A records check showed that his license status was suspended back in August for non-payment of Iowa fines.

A probable cause search of the vehicle reportedly turned up a bag of marijuana containing 18 grams of the drug, located in a hidden compartment by Williams’ feet in the vehicle.  The marijuana was allegedly packaged in six individual bags, weighing approximately  2 grams apiece.  Wiliiams reportedly admitted the marijuana was his.

Williams was wanted on warrants stemming from a shooting over the summer.

Iowa City Police were called to a report of a gunshot victim on the 2600 block of Westwinds Drive just after 1am on July 4th. Multiple surveillance videos taken from the scene reportedly show a group of 10-15 people who assembled to use unlawful force against another person. Williams was reportedly identified as one of those on scene. He was located on the Ped Mall later that night while in possession of 20 grams of marijuana.

Williams was arrested and charged with Participating in a Riot, Assault causing Bodily Injury, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.  He failed to appear for case management conferences scheduled for December 14th and 15th.

If convicted on all charges currently facing him, Williams could be sentenced to a prison term of up to nine years.
