An Iowa City man faces up to two years in jail after allegedly driving while intoxicated and possessing marijuana.

21-year-old Marwan Abdullmaged of Bartelt Road was driving a Ford Focus near the intersection of Riverside Drive and Iowa Avenue just after 1am Friday and was stopped because he does not have a valid driver’s license.  Upon contact, Abdullmaged reportedly smelled strongly of raw marijuana, prompting a search.

Officers allegedly found a baggie of marijuana in his pocket. Abdullmaged reportedly also had bloodshot watery eyes, and showed measurable impairment during field sobriety tests.

He also allegedly admitted to being impaired, due to his taking Xanax and marijuana within a few hours of the traffic stop.  A Drug Evaluation was refused; a urine toxicology is pending.

Abdullmaged has been charged with OWI first offense and marijuana possession, both serious misdemeanors.
