A Coralville man was charged with a second count of domestic assault after an incident late last month.

Police say the incident occurred at the Western Hills Manufactured Housing Community November 29th at approximately 11:50 pm. 38-year-old Pedro Gaona reportedly kicked the victim in her right arm and side, causing pain and some bruising.  She complained of pain on her right side and soreness in her back from where she was kicked.

The couple shares three children, two of which are minors.  Gaona has a previous domestic abuse conviction from December 2021 in Johnson County.

A warrant for Gaona’s arrest was issued the next day; he was taken into custody Monday afternoon and charged with second offense Domestic Abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.

A no-contact order was requested between the couple.
