An Iowa City couple has been charged with child endangerment after they each allegedly shook their child on multiple occasions.
Iowa City Police were dispatched to an apartment on the 500 block of North Dubuque Street just after midnight on November 18th for a welfare check on a three-month-old boy. 30-year-old Amber Narvaez and 25-year-old Brendon Narvaez allegedly told investigators that they had shaken the child twice each because he wouldn’t stop crying. Police say Brendon Narvaez also admitted to biting the child on the thigh. A check at a local hospital confirmed a mark where the bite had reportedly taken place.
Brendon Narvaez is charged with Child Endangerment Causing Injury, a Class D felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.
Amber Narvaez faces a misdemeanor Child Endangerment charge, which is punishable by a maximum two-year sentence upon conviction.
