The city of West Liberty has a new police chief.

Earlier this week the city announced on its Facebook page that Joshua Houser had officially accepted the position.
West Liberty mayor Ethan Anderson and the city council interviewed three police chief candidates on Monday, December 11th. After much deliberation, Houser received the consensus of the council and mayor’s approval and was offered the position.

Houser served the West Liberty community as a police officer from 2017 through 2021 and remained on the part-time roster after leaving his full-time position for another opportunity. Houser’s Oath of Office will be on Tuesday during the council’s regular meeting. Houser will begin serving in the role on January 10th. He replaces former chief Eric Werling, who was named Anamosa’s new police chief in October.
