Iowa City Police have arrested a man they say barricaded himself in his home after he led them on a brief chase.

Arrest records indicate officers attempted a traffic stop on a 2008 Toyota Highlander that was driving straight in the southbound turn lane of Mormon Trek Boulevard as it approaches West Side Drive just before 12:30 Saturday morning. The vehicle fled, and the pursuit was terminated.

Investigators traced the vehicle back to 45-year-old Lukelelo Msebengi, and they went to his residence in the Lake Ridge manufactured housing community. Police say Msebengi barricaded himself inside a locked room inside the trailer. Officers eventually broke down the door and took him into custody.

Msebengi reportedly showed signs of intoxication and registered a breath alcohol level above the legal limit for driving. He was arrested and charged with Operating While intoxicated – 2nd Offense, Eluding, Interference With Official Acts, and Driving While Denied or Revoked. If convicted on all charges, Msebengi faces a maximum of over four years in jail.
