Two residents were displaced after a fire broke out in their Cedar Rapids home Thursday night.

Fire Department dispatch was contacted at approximately 8:45pm on reports of a fire coming from the side of a house on the 2300 block of Glass Road NE.  Upon arrival, crews found fire coming from the first floor and the second story exterior on the north side of the dwelling.

The occupants, a 40-year-old male and a 36-year-old female, had safely evacuated before fire department personnel arrived.

The fire progressed into the eaves and attic before it was brought under control. The home suffered fire damage to the exterior and upper parts of the interior of the home, with smoke and water damage on the first floor. The occupants have been temporarily displaced as a result.

It was unknown if smoke alarms were working at the time of the incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
