A Solon man was arrested for OWI after allegedly failing to negotiate a T-intersection and hitting a tree.

The incident occurred at around 11:30pm Tuesday. 43-year-old Jeramy Viet of E 5th Street was at the T-intersection on the 5100 block of 160th Street NE when he reportedly missed the stop sign and crashed his 2017 Ford into a resident’s tree.

When a sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene, Viet allegedly admitted to driving the vehicle and crashing. He was observed with bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and the strong odor of ingested alcohol. Viet allegedly admitted to drinking “2 IPAs” at Club 76 in North Liberty before driving.

After showing impairment on field tests, a Datamaster showed his BAC at .153 percent.

Viet was charged with OWI first offense, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to one year if convicted.
