Video from a neighbor’s security camera reportedly shows an Iowa City man abusing his dog.

Iowa City Police say they’ve acquired video from a Ring camera that shows 36-year-old Brandon Shields of Lillian Street approaching a kennel in his backyard and pulling a dog out by its collar. He can then reportedly be seen hitting the dog in the face twice. Police say the dog can be seen cowering and running away, but Shields allegedly pins the dog to the ground and punches it in the head about five times before carrying the limp animal back to the kennel and putting it back inside. A second video recorded later that day reportedly shows Shields dragging the dog out of the kennel by its leash and lifting it up by the collar so its front legs are off the ground. Police say he can then be seen dragging the dog across the yard by the collar.

Both incidents reportedly occurred on the afternoon of December 3rd.

Shields is charged with Animal Abuse, a Serious Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of one year in jail.
