Average gas prices in Iowa have fallen nearly 8 cents in the past week, ahead of holiday travel season.

Gas Buddy’s weekly survey showed prices averaging $2.80 a gallon. That’s nearly 26 cents lower than a month ago, and just over 16 cents lower than a year ago at this time.

Gas Buddy’s head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan says prices are now at their lowest levels of 2023. The average national price of $3.11 a gallon is expected to dip below $3.05 over the next weeks, which would be the lowest since 2021.
