A Coralville man faces charges that he tried to proposition a minor for sex.
23-year-old Luis Paba-Juliao of 14th Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 3:30 Friday afternoon. Iowa City Police say Paba-Juliao had been communicating with a person who he believed to be under the age of 16 since late November. Paba-Juliao had allegedly asked the person to meet him for oral sex and sexual intercourse. Investigators say Paba-Juliao arranged to meet the other person at Coral Ridge Mall Friday afternoon, where police took him into custody just after 1:45 p.m.
Paba-Juliao reportedly admitted to arranging to meet a person he believed to be under the age of 16 for sex. He allegedly gave police false identity information, but officers were able to determine his true identity based on a prior arrest.
Paba-Juliao is charged with Enticing a Minor for Sexual Purposes and Providing False Identity Information. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of over five years in prison.
