The Iowa State Patrol has released the name of the semi driver who died in an early Friday morning crash near Tiffin.
According to the official accident report, which was updated Friday night, 55-year-old Eric Smith of Show Low, Arizona was driving a Freightliner westbound on Interstate 80 just west of the Tiffin exit just before 4:30 a.m. when it left the roadway, entered the ditch, struck a tree and caught fire. Smith died at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
