The passenger of a man arrested for drug possession and an outstanding assault warrant faces her own charges after she was allegedly found with drugs on her, both at the traffic stop and in the Johnson County Jail.

Police say when they pulled over 42-year-old Larry Johnson of Taylor Drive early Thursday morning, he was accompanied by 34-year-old Adrianna Ruiz De Chavez of Mount Pleasant. When another unidentified passenger was pulled out of the vehicle due to a warrant for his arrest, a meth pipe was reportedly seen on the rear floor of the backseat as he exited. A search of the vehicle was then conducted, and Ruiz De Chavez’s makeup bag allegedly contained a baggie with a crystal-like substance. A search of her backpack reportedly found a prescription drug container full of white tablets with the name of the owner intentionally ripped off the bottle.

Once at the Johnson County Jail, a routine strip search was conducted, where staff reportedly located two baggies containing 35 grams of a crystal-like substance on her person, and a digital scare in her coat pocket.

A check of criminal records showed Ruiz De Chavez had a previous conviction for conspiring or intending to deliver methamphetamine in November 2022.

Ruiz De Chavez faces a number of charges; they include a Class B Controlled Substance violation, Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug, Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2nd offense Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Facility, and a Tax Stamp violation. If convicted on all counts, Ruiz De Chavez could be sentenced to up to 39 years in prison.
