An Iowa City woman who was arrested Sunday night for stealing a resident’s phone and making a series of false 911 calls was taken into custody again on a warrant stemming from an incident last month where she fondled herself in the lobby of her apartment building in full view of witnesses.
Police say that at around 10:20pm November 30th, 50-year-old Trina Thompson was in the public lobby of 501 Southgate along with other residents and building staff, when she allegedly exposed herself. She was positively identified on scene and confirmed on surveillance video, reportedly posturing at tenants in the lobby and then pulling down her pants. She allegedly exposed and fondled herself in front of others, then continued to walk around while her pants were still down. Thompson then reportedly pulled her pants up, but did not fasten them.
She also reportedly assaulted a resident while in the lobby.
Security video reportedly confirms that Thompson first attacked the victim in the breezeway of the complex, shoving her into a door. Once inside the building, Thompson allegedly continued to taunt, intimidate and demonstrate that she wanted to fight by jumping back and forth with her fists up, kicking off her shoes and lunging at the victim. The victim tried to escape and keep a safe distance, but Thompson reportedly continued to come at the victim without stopping. She allegedly struck the victim five more times and was stopped from striking the victim with a metal pole by another resident. Although she didn’t have the weapon in her hand, Thompson allegedly continued to strike and intimidate the victim.
Thompson was charged with two counts of indecent exposure and assault with intent to inflict serious injury. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to up to four years in jail.
Sunday evening, Thompson was arrested after reportedly stealing a resident’s cellphone. She also allegedly made three false calls to 911, trying to get officers to come up to apartment and speak with her while she was bathing in her tub. She could spend up to four months in jail if convicted on charges from that day.
